On 4 February 2026, Rīgas Mākslas un mediju tehnikums (RMMT) hosted the ShiftVET A1.3 Technological Workshop in Riga, Latvia, creating a valuable platform for dialogue between vocational education professionals and representatives from the woodworking and furniture sector.
The workshop focused on presenting the ShiftVET technological guidelines and discussing the role of digital technologies in the future of vocational training. Teachers, trainers, coordinators and industry specialists explored how digital tools can support learning processes while maintaining the essential values of traditional craftsmanship.
A key feature of the event was the participation of external professionals from the woodworking and furniture industry, whose practical experience enriched the discussions and provided valuable insights into current labour market needs.
The workshop encouraged open and constructive debate around the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation. Participants discussed topics such as infrastructure requirements, teacher preparedness, equipment availability and the importance of balancing technological innovation with traditional woodworking skills.

Feedback gathered during the event highlighted strong appreciation for the structured presentation of the technological guides and the opportunity to exchange perspectives between education providers and industry stakeholders. Participants emphasised the importance of adopting a gradual and realistic approach to digital transformation, ensuring that new technologies complement existing practices rather than replace them.
RMMT identified several areas for future development, including the increased use of digital design tools, CNC-related workflows and digital visualisation technologies. At the same time, discussions acknowledged the need for continued investment, professional development and institutional planning to support wider adoption of advanced technologies.
The workshop demonstrated the importance of collaboration between vocational education providers and industry experts in shaping future-ready training programmes. By fostering dialogue and critical reflection, ShiftVET continues to support a sustainable and practical approach to digital innovation within the wood and furniture sector.
