ShiftVET Brings Technologies into the Classroom at IES José Luis Castillo Puche

The practical activities introduced learners to three key technologies that are increasingly transforming industrial production processes: 3D printing, 3D scanning and CNC machining. Guided by teachers and experts from CETEM, students worked directly with digital tools and equipment, gaining valuable experience in modern manufacturing workflows.

Throughout the sessions, participants completed practical exercises designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real industrial applications. Students learned how to create and manufacture components using 3D printing, capture and digitise physical objects through 3D scanning, and understand the principles of computer-controlled machining with CNC technology.

One of the main objectives of the practical class was to help students understand how these technologies can be integrated into contemporary production environments. By working with real equipment and following structured exercises, participants were able to develop technical skills while improving problem-solving, teamwork and digital competences.

The activities generated a high level of engagement and curiosity among students, who showed strong interest in the potential applications of these technologies within the furniture and woodworking industries. The practical approach allowed learners to experience first-hand how digital fabrication is changing traditional manufacturing processes and creating new professional opportunities.

For the teaching staff, the practical class also provided valuable insights into how digital manufacturing technologies can be incorporated into vocational education programmes, helping to align training with current and future labour market needs. Through initiatives such as these, ShiftVET continues to support the modernisation of vocational education and training, equipping students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in an increasingly digital and technology-driven wood and furniture sector.
